Christian Egli0ae8b0a2012-09-05 09:33:14 +000031
32This release contains a tremendous amount of work many developers.
33Many long standing bugs have been fixed. The tables can finally be in
34UTF-8. A grand table cleanup removed duplication from the tables.
35There are now two extensive test frameworks for table writers. A
36number of new tables have been contributed on top of the usual
37assortment of table improvements. Thanks to all of this liblouis has
38already seen quite a bit of uptake in a number of places, notably the
39new DAISY pipeline will ship with this release of liblouis.
Christian Egli539f6b32012-02-27 09:13:17 +000040
Christian Eglieb7178f2012-09-10 10:08:16 +000041NOTE: If you have private tables you might want to migrate them to
42utf-8. To do this just use iconv as follows:
43
44 $ iconv -f latin-1 -t utf-8 <input >output
45
Christian Egli539f6b32012-02-27 09:13:17 +000046** New features

49 - Portuguese 8 dot Computer braille, Thanks to Rui Fontes
Christian Egli328d0c92012-07-10 07:14:48 +000050*** UTF-8 support in tables
51 Braille tables can now contain UTF-8 in the opcode arguments.
Christian Egli539f6b32012-02-27 09:13:17 +000052*** Improvements to the python bindings
53 All constants defined in liblouis.h are now exposed in the bindings.
Christian Eglicc1a0a42012-03-02 13:34:09 +000054*** Add a doctest infrastructure
Christian Egli66cfe502012-03-01 14:50:42 +000055 These tests are based on the Python doctest framework and are only
56 run if there is a Python interpreter on the system
Christian Eglicc1a0a42012-03-02 13:34:09 +000057*** Add a test harness
58 This test infrastructure allows the user to do table tests in a
Christian Egli0ae8b0a2012-09-05 09:33:14 +000059 simple and concise syntax. These tests are based on the Python
60 nose testing framework and are only run if either Python 2.x or
61 3.x with the related nose python module is installed on the
62 system. See the documentation for more information. Thanks to
63 Mesar Hameed.
Mesar Hameed96f30d82012-07-20 08:43:00 +000064*** Add a test harness generator
Christian Egli0ae8b0a2012-09-05 09:33:14 +000065 A harness generator that uses simple text files with a little
66 formatting to help to generate the json harness files. The purpose
67 of this tool is to make it much easier and faster to add checks
68 for a given table. You are expected to read the generated harness
69 file and make necessary changes, the tool only helps you to get
70 the tests into the harness format, not check their validity.
Christian Egli1d7b3022012-05-16 07:59:44 +000071*** Support for Python 3 in the Python bindings
72 The Python bindings now work for both Python 2 and Python 3.

76 - Improved the test framework to be able to test translations
77 involving Unicode.
78 - Added numerous tests, e.g. for lowercase and Unicode, for the
79 input position, for repeated, etc.
